L’apertura dei social network: il momento di Google

Quando Facebook ha annunciato che avrebbe reso pubblici i profili dei propri iscritti, qui si ipotizzava che anche gli altri social network avrebbero seguito la stessa strada.

Il primo a rispondere all’iniziativa di Facebook pare che sarà Google. Il 20 settembre scorso infatti, come scrive Techcrunch, Google ha riunito un gruppo di circa 15 luminari in un meeting tanto segretissimo per discutere di come fronteggiare la questione Facebook (che ha raggiunto i 37 milioni di utenti registrati).
Sempre secondo quanto scrive Michael Arrington di Techcrunch, la strategia di Google per contrastare Facebook si baserà anch’essa sull’apertura: il 5 novembre Google annuncerà un nuovo set di API che permetteranno agli sviluppatori di usare i dati del social graph di Google (inizialmente solo i dati di Orkut e iGoogle e poi anche Gmail, Gtalk e gli altri servizi di Google) per realizzare varie applicazioni. Ad esempio le pubblicità delle aziende potranno essere inserite nelle pagine personalizzate di Google sfruttando le informazioni dei profili utente di Orkut.

Da questa apertura potranno derivare molte altre applicazioni, ad esempio permettendo alle aziende sia di ottenere che fornire informazioni alle applicazioni di Google e degli altri social network, fino ad arrivare, come ipotizza sempre Techcrunch, ad inserire un “social layer” al di sopra di tutti i servizi offerti, per il quale Orkut sarà la fonte principale di informazioni e gli altri social network costituiranno fonti secondarie, senza dubbio interessate alla visibilità che il motore di ricerca potrà dare.

La tendenza all’apertura dei social network, ben rappresentata da OpenId, e conseguentemente all’integrazione delle piattaforme viene indicata come la next big thing, ad esempio da Massimo Russo e da Tony Siino in questa intervista rilasciata a Vincenzo Cosenza. Qui, invece, Enrico Bertini fa un’ipotesi sui progetti a cui sta lavorando Google e sottolinea l’importanza della privacy degli utenti in questa tendenza generale all’apertura dei social network.
