Wikipedia e la “non” definizione dei social media…un paradosso!

Vincenzo Cosenza racconta che il termine “social media”, nella versione inglese di Wikipedia, è candidato alla cancellazione, perché non esistono testi ufficiali che ne attestino la validità e la definizione attuale viene considerata “a marketing buzzword of limited currency”.
Questo episodio è paradossale se si pensa che Wikipedia stessa è un social media!

Forse il problema deriva proprio dal fatto che chi si trova immerso nei social media, non è alla giusta distanza da essi per poterne dare una definizione adeguata, oppure non si vuole esporre tentando di dare una definizione che rischia di essere parziale di un fenomeno cosi ampio. In ogni caso emerge un problema di “funzionamento” di Wikipedia: come valutare l’autorevolezza delle voci inserite nell’enciclopedia (qui si parla di due strumenti per verificare l’autorevolezza di Wikipedia). Le motivazioni per cui la definizione di social media dovrebbe essere cancellata sembrano abbastanza deboli: cosa si deve intendere per “testi ufficiali”? Non sono sufficientemente ufficiali i siti, i blog, i testi che ne trattano, scritti da attenti studiosi, osservatori e, in questo caso, partecipanti attivi dei social media?

Tutto questo dimostra che i “social media” sono un argomento complicato, in continua evoluzione, con molti aspetti da prendere in considerazione, prima di poterne dare una definizione precisa.
